Scruffs Cómpeta raises over €2,000 |
The
first of this year’s Costa Animal Society annual dog shows was held
in Cómpeta.
| Almost 80
dogs were entered in 14 competitive classes ranging from the
best pedigrees to the best fancy dress and the best six legs
(those of the dog and owner!). The fun event raised €2,118
for the society.
President
Jane Kirk thanked all the sponsors, volunteers, dogs and
everyone else who helped in any way to make the day such a
success.
More photos
from Scruffs Cómpeta, including pictures of the winners in
each class, can be found at the CAS website
here. |

The second annual CAS
dog show, Scruffs Nerja, will be held
on October 2 at a new venue. The town hall has loaned the use of the
site at Almijara II where the town’s weekly Tuesday and Sunday
markets take place. There will be many more stalls this year
including all the old favourites, but CAS always needs extra pairs
of hands for publicity, finding sponsors, helping with parking,
selling programmes and 101 other tasks.
If you could help with
the huge task of organising this important fund-raising event,
please call Jane on 616 530 071. |

Will
Luca be lucky? |
Could
you give a new loving home to Luca (pictured below)? He’s a
three-year-old Mastíff who was found in Nerja where he had been
tormented by children and was understandably terrified.
 |
|
Now, Luca
has been neutered and vaccinated and has become gentle,
friendly and adorable. He is blind in one eye and has
mild symptoms of the disease Leishmaniasis but this is
well controlled by tablets.
Luca has
spent a long time in kennels at Benajarafe and is
desperate to find a new family to care for him.
If that
family might be yours, please call 95 251 3521 for more
details.
Meanwhile
Bingo, the 200th CAS dog to be homed in the Netherlands,
will fly out early in July. |
Almost a third of
the dogs homed by CAS recently went to new Dutch families while
about a half found new Spanish owners. The remainder travelled
to Germany, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Norway and even the Polar
Dogs Association!
With an average of
one dog homed every day, CAS has an excellent record but is
always looking for volunteers to expand its group of temporary
fosterers. Looking after a dog for a few weeks is an excellent
way to have a companion and still be able to go away on
holiday. You can even specify the kind of dogs you prefer!
For a no-obligation
chat, please call Wendy on 95 203 7095 or Jane on 616 530 071. |

Fund
Raisers |
| Almost
€700 was raised for CAS after Wendy and Gill Richardson
threw open their Nerja home for an evening of wine tasting.
Despite
unseasonal torrential rain, guests on the terrace enjoyed a
selection of fine wines kindly supplied by Michael of
InterBrosa in Avenida Castilla Perez and complemented by no
fewer than 11 different tapas dishes.
In late
May, a wonderfully successful evening at El Viejo Sotano in
Nerja raised €798 for the society. Over 60 guests
enjoyed a three-course meal and were |

Thanks to Pepe Mesa
and his staff at The Old Cellar, and to the evening’s sponsors – the

Can
you help CAS? |
We
know times are tough but, sadly, that does not prevent the
continuous flow of abandoned dogs and cats requiring help from the
Costa Animal Society. This, in turn, costs money which is as tight
for CAS as it is for everyone.
However, if you could
donate a little to help the animals, CAS would be most grateful.
