Goodbye hot and sticky August and Hello to the September edition of Soltalk! Have you noticed weird gaps between cars that take you a moment to remember what they are?
Happenings in and around Nerja
Feria poster 2018
Nerja Town Hall have announced that the poster entitled “BailARTE”, is the winning work of the 2018 Feria Poster competition. A total of 84 works were received from all parts of Spain and even from Latin America. They were all evaluated by the jury appointed by the town hall. They were then narrowed down into a shortlist of 20, then ten and then five, and finally a winner was declared. Some of the selection criteria were the expressiveness and the symbolic capacity related to the theme, the ability to transmit the message, creativity and artistic quality, and the aesthetics of the work (design, colour and originality). The president of the jury, Mr. Iván Rebolledo, who announced the winner, indicated the difficulty they had among so much work to select just one. We love it!
Pets go to church
A Celebration of Creation and Blessing of Animals will take place on Sunday September 30, at 10.30am in Vélez-Málaga Church (Calle Linares 7, Vélez-Málaga). There will also be a special thanksgiving and remembrance for the animals and birds of World War 1. Bring all your furry, fluffy and feathered friends. Everyone welcome – come and join us.
Once again the Royal British legion in Nerja have presented pennants to two businesses to thank them for keeping their all year round Poppy boxes in the public eye. At the end of June Nerja celebrated the second LGBT Week - an active week to support the group. One thing the Town Hall carried out was painting work with the colours of the LGTBI flag on the stairs leading to La Torrecilla Beach. The current version of the flag consists of six stripes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet, which reproduce the order of the colours of the rainbow. With it, the struggle for an egalitarian society that does not judge by sexual preferences is proclaimed and vindicated. During the week several acts took place, including this display of the rainbow flag on the Town Hall, to strengthen ties towards diversity and acceptance without prejudice.
Can you help CAS?
Is there anybody out there who would be willing to hold the Costa Animal Society (CAS) book stall at Trapiche market, held on Tuesdays from 9.30am until 1.30pm? The money raised on this stall is much needed to help CAS help sick and abandoned animals in Nerja.
CAS do have volunteers willing to help but they don’t have access to a vehicle needed to transport the books, tables, etc. It wouldn’t need to be each week but any help would be gratefully appreciated. If you feel that you could assist CAS, please contact them on 608 876 488. Many thanks.
Dorothy Allen, R.B.L. Nerja’s Poppy Appeal organizer presented pennants to Brian Wise at El Bosque and Mark Walker at the Punta Lara Bar. They have all-year-round Poppy boxes on their bars which always need servicing and kindly donate raffle prizes for the various R.B.L. events held for the Poppy Appeal. Photos by Dave Allen.
