Hello and welcome to the July issue of Soltalk. Would somebody please tell me what happened to 2022? It does seem to be rushing along and we are already passed midsummers day! So what happens in Nerja during July?
The evening of July 16th sees the procession of the Virgen del Carmen. This fiesta is common throughout the coastal communities of Spain. Whereas some towns hold a draw to choose the boat that will carry the image of the Virgen del Carmen out to sea, in Nerja the town actually has a special boat which was designed just for Virgen del Carmen Day. The night before the Virgen del Carmen festival there is a floral offering and the next day all the activity begins, culminating in the procession that takes the Virgen out to sea. For the Virgen del Carmen events schedule visit the Nerja tourist office. I love to watch the procession arrive on the Torrecilla beach, it happens around dusk and is very moving with a band playing along as well.
Meanwhile Nerja is ready to welcome even more visitors to come and enjoy the weather, beaches and the many bars and restaurants we get to enjoy all year round. We hope you all have a wonderful July and don’t forget the sunscreen!
