Spain’s former King Juan Carlos I, father of King Felipe, visited the UK during April. He has being living in self-imposed exile in Abu Dhabi for the last three years after he abdicated, estranged from his wife and family, following a series of scandals and allegations of corruption.
Juan Carlos, now 85, was at Stamford Bridge to support Real Madrid in their clash with Chelsea, and was also rumoured to have spent time with King Charles who is a close friend, although this was not confirmed by Buckingham Palace. However, neither Juan Carlos not his wife Queen Sofia are on the Coronation guest list, with King Felipe and Queen Letizia expected to represent Spain.
Juan Carlos left the UK en route to Galicia to take part in a yachting regatta. It was his second visit to Britain since he decided to live outside Spain.
