A man who fled from a routine traffic stop in Nerja has led police to breaking up a criminal organisation alleged to have been distributing drugs from Málaga.  The four kilos of marijuana found in the car abandoned at the traffic stop is thought to have been en route to Granada or Sevilla.

Investigators discovered that weekly trips were being made with drugs hidden behind fake panels in vehicles.  In one, a kilo of cocaine was found behind the dashboard and could only be accessed by a complex series of actions taken on various controls and accessories in the vehicle.

House searches then followed in Málaga, Nerja, Torrox, Cártama, Casarabonela and Granada where quantities of drugs, cash, weighing and packing machines, and documentation were seized.  Investigators believe the gang was distributing between four and eight kilos of cocaine a month throughout Andalucía.  Four people have been arrested.

Meanwhile, two people were arrested last month after a boat they were guarding in a dry dock on Nerja’s Playazo beach was found to have drugs on board.  They are suspected of attempting to bring 600 kilos of hashish into the country.  The boat and a car belonging to the suspects were seized and police said further detentions could not be ruled out.
