Plans have been announced for a new fish market at the port of Caleta de Vélez.  The regional government says a contract for the construction project will be awarded before the end of the year.

Caleta is one of the most important fishing ports in the province of Málaga and in the first months of this year, turnover has exceeded €4 million, a fifth more than the same period in 2020.  Tourism is also important and the town has enjoyed an occupancy rate of more than 90 per cent this summer.

Work on a new fish market will also cover completion of urban integration with the port and has a budget of almost €625,000.  A commission has been established to prepare a draft of the project and includes representation from the local Fishermen’s Association as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Andalucía’s Public Ports Agency.
